We own and breed labs that can compete at any level. My dogs flat out HUNT!! Yes we do breed for point, but consider that an absolute bonus. All of our labs point, but we hunt them like traditional labs and if the bird holds the dogs lock up, otherwise we're shooting flushed birds. We hunt on average 3-4 days a week during the season so my dogs are proven to say the least. As far as the point, I've hunted with traditional pointing dogs that "ran big" and all you saw were wild birds flying out of range. On the same hand, I've seen these same breeds pointing every scent old or new that they came across and only producing 1 to every 12 of my labs points. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, this is mine! If I can hunt behind a close working dog and shoot flushed birds (or pointed birds if they'll hold), have a die-hard waterfowl dog that will break ice to get your goose, and have that same dog watch TV with your kids and sit in your fishing boat with you in the summer, it's as good as it gets!
